Introducing New Writer - Ash Soden

Hello, I am Ash. I’m one of the new writers for ROTL UK. I’m 23 and from Birmingham, though I now live in Nottingham and will hopefully be moving across the pond this year (acceptance on a PhD pending). I studied Ancient History at university (yes, yes, I know, insert all the jokes about how we haven’t been successful for donkey’s years). If you’ve been around the podcast for the past year, you might know me from such things as constantly popping up in the chat with news/information, and constantly talking about Jermaine Johnson II. In my defence, I think I have been proven right on that last count with how much attention he drew in the Senior Bowl practices.

I began supporting our Lions about eight years ago. Some of my friends at school were already into the sport and they introduced me to it through Madden Mobile (back when that was actually a half-decent game) and fantasy football. I chose to support the Lions as, to me, the team and the city reflects things that were already in my life. Just like Detroit, Birmingham is a former industrial heartland that’s fallen on harder times and has a bit of an unfair reputation. And just like the Lions, my association football team Aston Villa has a rich history, has blue as one of their colours, have had great players who have gone under the radar because they’re playing for such a club, and both have lions in their logo. My best Lions memory is the 2016 overtime win over the Vikings. The Golden Tate flip into the endzone, the commentary over it, one of those classic Stafford comebacks we had that year; to me, it was the epitome of the Lions experience.

Hopefully, you will like what I write, and don’t disagree too much with my style. I am very used to writing massive long-form essays, so I will try my best to both keep things light and breezy, with the occasional joke thrown in. I look forward to experiencing the next season and beyond with you guys, both in terms of the Lions and college.

Greetings, I was glad to listen to your interesting interview. The season went really well. I liked the quality of your broadcast, which application did you use for this? Is it on this list? I just want to do live broadcasts
